Nabad presents an exhibition entitled “Garden of Eden IV,” by established Jordanian artist Farouk Lambaz, renowned for his skillfully crafted calligraphic paintings. Farouk believes that the Arabic script provides a vast range of opportunities to express the Arab identity. In his exhibition statement, he writes:
“The Arabic script represents form and content, movement and infinite abstraction. It possesses a unique artistic potential which sets it apart from the script of other languages, and also provides a wide array of opportunities to express and assert the Arab identity and personality in a contemporary context, without attenuation or westernization. This ensures the continuity of the spirituality and Sufism of the east.”
Born in Amman, Jordan, Farouk Lambaz studied law but went on to pursue an active artistic career as painter, designer and art teacher. Since 1968, he has held sixteen solo exhibitions and has participated in numerous local and international group shows. Lambaz has been awarded the Jordanian Kawkab Medal of the Fourth Order by the late King Hussein of Jordan. He currently lives and works in Amman.
