TRENDSETTING VI: ART & FUNCTION BY DESIGN

Nabad holds the sixth edition of its annual series of exhibitions, “Trendsetting,” with this year’s show featuring six emerging and established artists, architects and designers, each creating unique items especially for this event. The pieces include an artwork entitled, ‘Impression’ by architect Hiba Shahzada, in which she explores the concept of space and the versatility of copper. Onur Lambaz takes the ordinary metal clothes hanger and up-cycles it to a decorative chandelier or room divider, also displaying sculptural metal necklaces.

DIALOGUE OF THE DOT

Nabad Art Gallery opens a solo exhibition by Jordanian artist, curator and Director General of the Jordan National Gallery of Fine Arts, Khalid Khreis, his third solo at Nabad. According to the artist, his work continues to portray one of the main elements of his artistic preoccupations, people, whom he depicts as concentrated, interconnected crowds, represented by dots; hence the title of the exhibition. The rhythm created by the repetition of the dot reflects the artist’s Sufi-inspired meditations on the fragility of the human spirit and the mysteries of the universe.

NOSTALGIA

Nabad presents Boutros al-Maari's paintings in a solo exhibition for the first time in Jordan. “Nostalgia” was the title of Al-Maari’s solo show in Paris in 2000, and again in Damascus earlier this year. What has changed, says the artist, is the location and the “state of the country that we yearn for,” Syria. “Nothing,” he continues, “equals the pleasure of strolling, day or night, in the old city….

JAPANESE FLOWERS IN KIRKUK

Nabad presents an exhibition of works by Himat M. Ali, a French artist of Iraqi-Kurdish origin. The exhibition includes a new collection of paintings and digital collages inspired by his latest trip to Japan, which he visits frequently and where he has already held ten solo shows. Himat produced an art book with the late Japanese poet, Gotaro Tsunezumi, who was a close friend of Himat's and wrote a series of poems that inspired a large number of paintings. “Every spring,” writes Himat, “flowers accompany me as a friend. They live and they die in front of me, silently.

SUMMER SHOW 2015

Nabad Art Gallery opens an exhibition of works by 18 artists from Jordan, the Arab region and abroad, including France, Spain, Egypt, Palestine, Lebanon, Iraq, Syria and the Philippines. The summer show is a regular annual event at Nabad, where established, mid-career and emerging artists working in different media and styles come together in one group exhibition. The artworks on display this year include 87 paintings, drawings and sculptures. Five of the artists are showing at Nabad for the first time.

COLOURFUL IMPRESSIONS ON PAPER

Nabad Gallery hosts renowned Lebanese artist Hussein Madi for a fourth solo show entitled, “Colourful Impressions on Paper,” in which he displays a selection of acrylics, drawings and limited-edition giclée prints. Throughout his successful fifty­-year career as painter, designer, printmaker and sculptor, Madi has demonstrated a profound intuitive understanding of the spiritual and artistic traditions of the Levant, coupled with a distinctly European influence, drawn from his formative years in Rome, where he studied and lived for over twenty years.

GARDEN OF EDEN IV

Nabad presents an exhibition entitled “Garden of Eden IV,” by established Jordanian artist Farouk Lambaz, renowned for his skillfully crafted calligraphic paintings. Farouk believes that the Arabic script provides a vast range of opportunities to express the Arab identity. In his exhibition statement, he writes:

ORDER AND CHAOS

Under the patronage of HRH Princess Alia Tawfiq Tabbaa, Nabad opens a solo exhibition of works by Venezuelan artist Fausto Borge, on Monday 9 February 2015 at 6:00 pm. The mixed media works on display are organic and highly textured, suggesting forms drawn from nature. According to the artist, his work is inspired by “the elementary components and forces underlying the dynamics of the universe.
