TRENDSETTING IV: ARCHITECT AS DESIGNER

Nabad opens the fourth in a series of exhibitions launched by Nabad in 2010. “Trendsetting IV: Architect as Designer” features uniquely designed three-dimensional objects by a group of both established and emerging Jordanian architects. Among the works on display are wall reliefs and sculptures, as well as home furnishings, such as light fixtures and coffee tables. The architects participating in the exhibition are Dina Haddadin, Bilal Hammad, Jamal Joucka, Riyad Joucka, Ammar Khammash, Khalid Nahhas, Abeer Seikaly and Rula Yaghmour.

TESTIMONY OF PRESENCE

Nabad opens an exhibition of paintings and collages by young Jordanian architect and painter, Rawan Kakish. In her second solo exhibition, “Testimony of Presence,” Rawan Kakish presents a new collection of portraits and cityscapes. Using photographs of elderly people as inspiration for her portraits, and archival photographs of Amman as a background to her mixed media collages, the artist bears witness to the past by capturing spontaneous moments in time and infusing them with warmth and nostalgia.

TOPOGRAPHIES: THE BRUSH & THE CHISEL

Nabad presents a joint exhibition of sculptures and paintings by Ikbal Shukri-Tannir and Dina Haddadin entitled, “Topographies: The Brush and the Chisel." The title reflects an essential artistic concept common to both artists. The human and urban topographies in the works of sculptor Ikbal Shukri-Tannir and multidisciplinary artist Dina Haddadin resonate across styles and media.

FRESHLY CUT

Nabad Art Gallery presents an exhibition of paintings and photographs of flowers, in a wide variety of styles and media, entitled “Freshly Cut.” On display are watercolours, acrylics and oils on canvas, as well as a number of photographic works. Flowers have served as a source of artistic inspiration throughout history to symbolize beauty and purity, from the ancient Egyptians who used them for ornamental purposes on sculptures and jewellery, all the way to the modernist close-up abstracts of Georgia O’Keefe and to the present.

LIVING ON THE EDGE

Nabad opens an exhibition of paintings, sketches and sculptures by Iraqi Kurdish artist, Serwan Baran on Monday 24 June at 6:30 pm. Using vivid colours alongside his more sombre palette, the artist presents a series of emotionally-charged composite portraits, some marked by a hand ‘gesture’, representing a state of mind or a commentary on contemporary events. His exaggerated, tenuously-positioned figures, highlighted by a monochromatic background, reflect an ironic humour and existential angst and disorientation.

PLAYFUL CONSTRUCTIONS

Nabad presents an exhibition of works by celebrated Lebanese artist, Hussein Madi. His third solo show at Nabad, this exhibition features paintings, collages and reliefs, as well as a number of giclèe prints, in which the artist’s pictorial vocabulary continues to display ironic playfulness in joyful, vibrant colours. These experiments in colour have produced a unique body of work that relates to the principles of divine harmony that inform the abstract designs of Islamic art.

ICONOGRAPHIES

Nabad Art Gallery presents an exhibition of forty works by Montreal-based artist, Eman Haram. In “Iconographies,” her second solo exhibition organized by Nabad, Haram presents an excerpt of a project that attempts to reassemble a vanishing homeland outside delineated maps and contentious geographical boundaries. In this open-ended series of photographic images, which blurs the boundaries between photography and other print media, the artist explores the physical and metaphysical states deriving from this banishment.

WATCHING TV

“Watching TV” By Olivier Culmann 5-14 March 2013 In the context of IMAGE FESTIVAL #3, Nabad presents “Watching TV,” an exhibition of works by French photographer Olivier Culmann. The third edition of the Image Festival is organized by Institut Français, in partnership with Darat al Tasweer, Greater Amman Municipality and Les Rencontres d’Arles. “Olivier Culmann photographs people watching TV. And their TV sets. The viewers' eyes are glued to the screen, hypnotized by the images that flicker by.

NABAD ART STUDENTS II

During the month of February, Nabad is holding its second exhibition of paintings and drawings by Nabad’s art students. The exhibition is curated by the students’ art teacher, Jordanian painter Farouk Lambaz. To encourage emerging artistic talent, Nabad is showcasing the artworks of thirty-five art students from three different age groups: 7-12 year-olds, 13-18 year-olds and adults. The opening is being held at 6:00 pm on Sunday 17 February 2013.
