TRENDSETTING: TWO JORDANIAN DESIGNERS

"Trendsetting" presents established ceramic artist Rula Atalla's first jewellery collection and young Jordanian designer Samar Habayeb's debut furniture collection. In her first exhibition working with mediums other than clay, Rula Atalla experiments with a variety of materials to create her first jewellery collection. Also on display is a selection of Atalla's environmentally-friendly Christmas trees.

BEYOND TIME

Iraqi painter and printmaker Rafa Nasiri is widely-known in the Arab world and beyond for his culturally rich artworks and elegant style. During the last decade, he has been inspired by poetry as varied as that of Al-Mutanabbi, Mahmoud Darwish and Etel Adnan. This poetic journey, coupled with a preoccupation with the element of time, has produced works that celebrate beauty, love and the homeland. Born in 1940, he studied painting and printmaking in Baghdad, Beijing and Lisbon.

THE SOUL'S REPOSE

In this, her third solo exhibition, Jordanian artist Juman Nimri shows a new collection of etchings, in addition to two installations and a number of photographs, all on the subject of women-symbolically represented by dolls. Through these artworks, Nimri poignantly highlights the state of women whose rights are being violated and expresses a strong stand in the defense of human dignity. Born in Jordan in 1974, Juman obtained a B.A. in Fine Arts at Yarmouk University in Jordan (1996). She has attended several printmaking workshops in Bangladesh, Spain, Switzerland and Jordan.

CITIES AND VILLAGES OF JORDAN

Nabad's fourteenth exhibition, "Cities and Villages of Jordan," features a collection of paintings on the theme of the country's urban and rural landscapes. Ranging from the figurative to the conceptual, the works exhibited are by ten Jordanian artists, the first three of whom are professional architects: Saba Innab, Ammar Khammash, Ali Maher, Hani Alqam, Clara Amado, Riham Ghassib, Omar Hamdan Shahuan, Salam Kanaan, Issam Tantawi and Ala' Younis. They all share a keen eye for the aesthetic and unique qualities of the country's natural and built environments.

THE ART OF HUSSEIN MADI

Prize-winning Lebanese painter, sculptor and printmaker Hussein Madi, one of the leading contemporary artists in the Arab world, is featured at Nabad during the month of July. According to art critic Joseph Tarrab, Madi's work is at once "tender and ironic" and "denotes an extremely profound intuitive understanding of the artistic and spiritual oriental tradition."

CONTEMPLATIONS

"Contemplations" is a collection of paintings by award-winning Jordanian artist Khalid Khreis. His paintings represent a continuation of his contemplations on the human spirit, nature and the cosmos. These new works are a result of many years of ascetic meditation into "al-zahir wal-batin (the esoteric and the exoteric)." His rich artistic and professional careers span over thirty years.

IN THE FOREST OF LOVE

Nabad features a new collection of paintings and art books by Paris-based Iraqi artist Himat, with a number of works by his late mentor, one of Iraq's most influential painters, Shaker Hassan Al Said (1925-2004). Himat's brilliantly coloured motifs evoke untamed nature and the richness of oriental textiles, while his use of stylized letters and symbols create a dynamic movement within the artwork.

VOICES IN THE GALLERY

In March 2010, a group of twelve emerging young women artists will exhibit artworks and perform in a unique display of talent to celebrate women's creative self-expression at Nabad in Amman. An exhibition of paintings by Sima Bustami, Natasha Dahdaleh, Laila Demashqieh, Dina Haddadin, Rawan Qaqish, Karma Shawa and Nahla Tabbaa, as well as an interactive installation by Toleen Toq, will open at Nabad on 3 March at 7 pm.

BETWEEN MEMORY AND AMNESIA: YOU SHALL PASS THROUGH SEVEN VEILS

Nabad Art Gallery's space at the Sunny Art Fair 2010 launches the work of Eman Haram, a multicultural artist whose photo-based work, in her own words, "explores the predicament of lives dispersed across multiple social, cultural, linguistic and geopolitical landscapes." Haram's first exhibition in Jordan, "Between Memory and Amnesia: You Shall Pass Through Seven Veils," features three different projects.
