Saleh Abu Shindi was born in Jaffa in 1942. He obtained a B.A., specializing in oil painting, and a diploma in Art Education from the College of Fine Arts in Cairo (1962). In 1992, he obtained an M.A. in Printmaking and a Ph.D. in Fine Arts from Gujarat, India. Abu Shindi, in addition to being a prolific artist, has held numerous teaching and administrative posts in the field of art education in Jordan. He has held a number of solo exhibitions and participated in many group exhibitions and biennials in the region and abroad. Abu Shindi lives and works in Amman.

"Abu Shindi's works are concerned with a compositional landscape blended with Islamic motifs and calligraphy. . . . He captures the decorative character of the Arabic script and portrays the strong images of Jerusalem, which feature in many of his works. His paintings reflect a sculptural effect, with the play of light and dark and emphasis on cultural details."
