At the start of its second year, Nabad brings together the calligraphic works of an important group of artists from seven Arab countries. Participating from Jordan are Omar Bilbeisi, Farouk Lambaz, Mahmoud Taha and detailed drawings for the restoration of the old minbar of Salah al-Din, Al-Aqsa mosque, by the late Jamal Badran; from Palestine, Rima Farah, Suleiman Mansour and Laila Shawa; from Lebanon, Etel Adnan; from Syria, Khaled al-Saai; from Iraq, works by the late Madiha Umar, who pioneered the modern use of Arabic calligraphy in abstract painting; from Egypt, Sameh Ismail; Rashid Diad from Sudan; and from Algeria, Mahjoub Ben Bella. The artworks exhibited all draw on the rich tradition of Arabic calligraphy, utilizing the Arabic script in new and creative ways, both in its abstract and traditional forms.
