Under the patronage of HRH Princess Wijdan al-Hashemi, an exhibition of recent paintings by established Jordanian artist Khalid Khreis opens at Nabad on 26 October 2011 at 6:00 pm. As is his custom, Khreis presents works that express his reactions to current intellectual, visual, sensory and spiritual realities and experiences. In his paintings, he focuses on the concept of place, and on current local and regional events. "This is a new experience," writes the artist in his exhibition statement, "that allows me to venture into somewhat risky ground, opening up new horizons leading to forking paths with the promise of the unexpected." While Khreis examines events from recent experience, he does not, however, aim to narrate or record these events in his artworks. Instead, the artist rearticulates his visual observations through his own unique artistic vision, constantly moving beyond the confines of the familiar. Khreis studied art in Egypt, Spain, Italy and Mexico and holds a Ph.D., cum laude, in the History of Art from Barcelona University. He is the Director of the Jordan National Gallery of Fine Arts in Amman. This is his fifteenth solo exhibition.
