Mona TRAD DABAJI

La Retour au Bercail

Oil on canvas

60x120 cm

2005

Mona Trad Dabaji’s work revolves around one recurrent theme: Lebanon, its traditions and culture. Through her paintings, in which she depicts mainly Lebanese women, she succeeds in conveying this multifaceted and complex culture with great precision. Determined to wipe out the last shadows of war, she collects old doors and windows and uses them as a support for her paintings, granting them a chance of rebirth in new interiors.

Mona Trad Dabaji graduated from the American University of Beirut in 1975, just as the civil war broke out in Lebanon. She currently lives and works in Beirut, where she has been teaching painting since 1993. Mona held her first exhibition, “Beirut, the Phantom City,” in 1992. She has exhibited in Lebanon, France, Jordan, the United States and the United Arab Emirates.
