Eman Haram was born of Palestinian parents in Damascus in 1958. She lived in Beirut between 1962 and 1980, when she moved to the USA to study and work. Haram holds a B.Sc. in Architecture and an M.A. in Art History from the University of South Florida (1992). Since 2001, she has been living in Montreal, Canada, intermittently visiting and working in Amman. Since 2005, she has participated in numerous group exhibitions and held two solo shows in Canada. Eman Haram utilizes the medium of photography in a new way, blurring the boundaries between the traditions of painting and photography. Amorphous concepts such as identity, homeland, exile, belonging, collective memory and points of conflict between Orient and Occident are subjects of constant exploration in her work.
